About The New Evangelization Team (NET)

The Catholic Church has been likened to a sleeping giant. Evangelization is the task of all baptized Christians, and not just for priests and religious and a few lay people.

Pope John Paul II has repeatedly reminded his flock that evangelization is the vocation proper of the Church, that it was through evangelization that the Church was born. All, including the millions of lay people, must participate in the urgent task of evangelization.

The mission of the Church, the work of the Church, is not to be done in the Church but in the world. The Church was not founded for the sake of the Church but for the sake of the world. It is in the world that people live and die without Christ. It is in the World that people need what the Gospel can give them.

The New Evangelization Team (NET) of the Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore has been forming and training evangelists and evangelizers since 1986.

About Our Logo

The WATER-MARK ... water is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. The watermark is also roughly shaped like the Tau. Originally, the Tau was the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It usually had a cruciform shape similar to the English letter 'T'. Being the last letter of the alphabet, it signified the end, the accomplishment of the revealed Word. In contrast, it was the first letter of the word Torah; thus, signifying the whole of the law. One of the first references to the symbol of the Tau appears in Ezekiel 9:4 ... "Go all through the city, all through Jerusalem, and mark a Tau on the foreheads of all who deplore and disapprove of all the filth practiced in it".

It was from this passage that Pope Innocent III spoke of the Tau in the 13th century ... The Tau has exactly the same form as the cross on which our Lord was crucified on Calvary. And only those will be marked with this sign and will obtain mercy, who have mortified their flesh and conformed their life to that of the Crucified Saviour." Consequently, St Francis of Assisi took the Tau as the symbol of his Order. We in NET should be reminded that it represents our life of conversion and metanoia.

The FISH, as we all know, was a symbol used by early Christians to indicate Christ. This was their "secret password" during the time of persecutions.

The fish jumping out of the water symbolizes, not only that we are called to be fishers of men, but also that those "caught" share in the Resurrection of believers in the power of the Holy Spirit.

In summary, the message of the NET logo is one of Christ, crucifixion, conversion, discipleship and our unique apostolate ... in Asia (style of the illustration), all in the power of the Holy Spirit.
